Led by superstar Francisco Lindor and bolstered by under-the-radar trade acquisitions, the New York Mets are emerging as a serious postseason contender.

With just weeks left in the regular season, the Mets find themselves on a red-hot run, having won 10 of their last 11 games. Currently, they hold a narrow one-game lead over the Atlanta Braves for the final NL wild-card spot, with the tie-breaker in hand.

The Mets’ success this season has been fueled by great starting pitching and Lindor’s MVP-level performance. Despite the ups and downs of the season, including losing streaks, injuries to key players, and surprise contributors stepping up, the Mets have remained resilient. This is quite the turnaround after their 2023 campaign, which saw the team trade away several star players like Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, and Mark Canha.

Under the new leadership of president David Sterns, the Mets were expected to regroup and look to the future. However, their 2024 campaign has taken an unexpected positive turn. Midseason trades quietly strengthened their roster, bringing in key pieces like pitcher Paul Blackburn and lefty bat Jesse Winker.

Now, with a few games left, the Mets are in control of their playoff destiny. A crucial series against the Braves in the season’s final week could determine which team secures the last NL postseason spot.

With games remaining against the Phillies, Brewers, and Nationals, the Mets have a challenging path ahead but appear poised for a deep playoff run if they continue their current form.
