In a recent development surrounding the tragic events that unfolded during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory celebration last month, a third individual, Terry J. Young, aged 20, has been formally charged with involvement in a fatal shooting.
Jackson County’s prosecutor, Jean Peters Baker, disclosed on Thursday that Young is facing charges of second-degree murder, unlawful weapon use, and two instances of armed criminal action, with the court setting his bail at $1 million.
Previously, Dominic Miller and Lyndell Mays had been charged with identical offenses following the incident that resulted in the death of Lisa Lopez-Galvan and left at least 25 others injured near Union Station amid the festivities for the Chiefs’ consecutive title win.
Additionally, charges have been filed against two juveniles in family court, with reports from CBS News indicating that a 15-year-old boy was also charged on Wednesday.
The altercation leading to the gunfire, as outlined by prosecutors, began when Young, alongside the two other accused, confronted another group.
The situation escalated rapidly when a firearm was brandished by one of the individuals from the opposing group, prompting Young to draw his weapon and fire multiple shots, as captured on surveillance footage.
Further evidence linking Young to the crime includes social media images of him wearing a backpack matching that of the shooter and cell phone data placing him at the crime scene.
Baker’s statement emphasizes that with Young’s charges, all individuals who fired shots during the chaos have been apprehended, marking a significant step in the investigation, despite the challenges posed by the large crowd present during the incident.
“We get complicated cases, but this case has been challenging,” she said.
“Everyone we’ve identified who discharged a firearm in response to the verbal altercation detailed here has been taken into custody,”
Further charges are anticipated to be filed, according to reports.
