The Las Vegas Raiders kicked off their 2024 NFL season with a tough 22-10 defeat against the Los Angeles Chargers. Several key points emerged from their performance.

One bright spot was the Raiders’ defense, which started the game strong. From the outset, they applied pressure on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, disrupting their offensive rhythm. However, as the game progressed, the Raiders’ defense began to fatigue due to their own offense’s inability to maintain drives, eventually succumbing to the Chargers’ offensive push. Still, the defensive performance was promising, confirming the preseason optimism surrounding this unit.

On the other hand, the Raiders’ offensive struggles were glaring. The play-calling, spearheaded by Luke Getsy, failed to create any momentum, while the offensive line struggled to handle the Chargers’ pass rush. The inconsistent quarterback play and turnovers compounded their issues, leading to a disjointed attack. This lackluster performance was a major factor in the loss.

Additionally, head coach Antonio Pierce’s decision-making was questionable. His choice to go for it on 4th and 1 early in the game backfired, and later, a more conservative approach cost them a crucial opportunity. These coaching choices played a significant role in the outcome.
