Following the Steelers’ significant win over the Baltimore Ravens, Head Coach Mike Tomlin did not take kindly to a question criticizing offensive tackle Broderick Jones.

The 14th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Jones had a rough outing against Baltimore, committing three penalties — two holding calls and a personal foul. However, Tomlin’s frustration with the question overshadowed any critique of his player’s performance.

“I am not worried about that. You guys can write all you want,” Tomlin said in his post-game press conference. “Broderick Jones is playing right tackle for us. He’s going to continue to get better. He’s a top-quality player in terms of his talent. He’s a young guy. He’s experiencing some on-the-job training. He and I will not blink. Keep writing.”

Tomlin’s response highlighted his commitment to developing Jones, despite recent struggles. Just a week prior, Jones excelled against the Washington Commanders, earning an 82.7 pass-block grade and allowing zero pressures over 32 pass-block reps. While inconsistencies remain, Tomlin emphasized patience with the young tackle.

Steelers fans, too, should temper expectations. Jones, only 23 years old, was a raw prospect when Pittsburgh traded up to draft him. Like many offensive tackles, his development will take time. Drawing parallels to Dan Moore Jr., who only solidified his position in his fourth season, the Steelers hope Jones will similarly grow into his potential.

Tomlin’s defensive stance reflects his belief in focusing on team achievements after a critical victory, rather than dissecting individual shortcomings.
