When Nick Saban retired in January after 51 years of coaching, many reflected on the numerous milestones of his career.
Among those are his final recruits—two standout five-star talents, LT Overton and Domani Jackson—who now play crucial roles in Alabama’s defense for the 2024 season.
Both Overton and Jackson committed to Alabama just before Saban’s retirement and chose to stay despite the coaching change. Under new defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, they have thrived. Overton, after a slow start at Texas A&M, has emerged as a force at the “Bandit” position, recording six tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble in Alabama’s 42-10 win over Wisconsin.
Wommack praised Overton for his relentless motor and physicality.
Meanwhile, Jackson, a former USC cornerback, has been a steady presence in Alabama’s secondary, despite not being heavily featured on stat sheets. His coverage skills helped Alabama’s pass rush by forcing the Wisconsin quarterback to hesitate on key plays. His coach, Maurice Linguist, commended Jackson for his focus and consistency, keeping opponents’ wide receivers in check.
Together, Overton and Jackson symbolize Saban’s final contributions to the Crimson Tide—a lasting legacy of elite talent that continues to strengthen Alabama’s defense even after his departure.
