Alabama football’s offensive lineman, Tyler Booker, recently added another accolade to his growing list of achievements by being named a Crimson Tide captain.
However, the 20-year-old standout made it clear that his focus remains on a larger goal: winning a national championship.
“It’s great to add [team captain] to my legacy, but the best thing to add to my legacy would be a national championship. That’s what we’re focused on right now,” Booker told AL.com’s Nick Kelly.
Booker is set to play a crucial role in Alabama’s quest for continued dominance, particularly following the departure of legendary coach Nick Saban. The Crimson Tide, ranked fifth in the preseason AP Poll, are aiming to improve their offensive line, which allowed the most sacks in the SEC and the fifth-most in FBS last season.
Booker expressed confidence in the new coaching staff, especially offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic, brought in after a tumultuous period following Saban’s exit.
“Coach Kap is really focused on scheme,” Booker said, adding that Kapilovic’s emphasis on a deeper understanding of the game and his concept of the “Juice Squad” has energized the unit. “The Juice Squad pretty much means that the offensive line has to set the tone for any football team… we’re going to be the tone-setter for the team…as it should be.”
Booker also praised his teammates, particularly Washington transfer center Parker Brailsford, who has quickly become an essential part of the team.
“Parker is essentially a coach on the field for us because he’s played in that scheme for two years previously.”
Booker said, emphasizing Brailsford’s role in helping the team adapt to new strategies.
As Alabama’s season unfolds, much of their success will hinge on how well Booker and his offensive line colleagues execute their roles, setting the stage for what could be a championship-winning year.
