The Miami Dolphins are facing challenges in 2024 after a standout 2023 season, with injuries to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and defenses adapting to head coach Mike McDaniel’s offensive scheme.
A key contributor to last year’s success, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, has not been as impactful this season. Hill, 30, has struggled to maintain his elite performance, with his stats dropping to 834 yards and 6 touchdowns through 15 games, compared to a stellar 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023. Additionally, Hill has made three drops this season, further fueling concerns about his role.
Hill, who still has two years left on his $90 million contract, is slated to count nearly $29 million against the salary cap in 2025, with an even steeper $52 million cap hit in 2026. These financial figures, combined with his declining performance, have led to increasing speculation that the Dolphins might trade him in the offseason.
Online sportsbook Bovada lists the Los Angeles Chargers as co-favorites to acquire Hill, and his recent social media activity has only heightened these rumors. On December 27, Hill shared a post on TikTok referencing the Chargers as the frontrunners for his services, leading many to believe that a trade is in the works.
Earlier in December, Hill had also tweeted: “It’s time for me to go coach,” which he later explained in an interview as a reference to a potential future career in coaching, citing the recent influx of former players entering the profession.
Despite his drop in production, Hill remains a significant figure in the NFL, and his future with the Dolphins is now the subject of intense speculation. As the season winds down, all eyes are on Hill’s next moves and what the future holds for the star wide receiver.
