Chelsea forward Cole Palmer revealed that Mauricio Pochettino engaged in discussions with the team regarding recent criticisms from fans.
Palmer, who has contributed significantly with 10 goals and 12 assists since his arrival from Manchester City last summer, emphasized Pochettino’s call for unity and trust in the process ahead of their upcoming match against Newcastle.
The team’s struggles in the league, winning only 10 out of 26 games, and their inability to consistently dominate opponents, have fueled discontent among supporters.
During Chelsea’s recent draw against Brentford, fans directed their frustrations towards Pochettino, with some demanding his dismissal and the return of Jose Mourinho.
Despite the club’s substantial investments in the squad, totaling £1 billion since May 2022, criticism has persisted, with former Manchester United captain Gary Neville dubbing the project a “blue billion-pound bottlejob.”
In the midst of external pressures, Palmer affirmed that progress is being made within the team and acknowledged the awareness of fan reactions.
He underscored Pochettino’s directive for the squad to remain united and focused, blocking out external distractions and criticisms.
This collective resolve, as advocated by the manager, aims to foster resilience and maintain a cohesive team spirit amidst the turbulent environment. As Chelsea prepares to face Newcastle, Palmer’s remarks highlight the importance of solidarity and belief in the manager’s vision, as they strive to navigate through challenging times and rediscover their winning form.
Cole Palmer’s statement on ESPN:
“I feel like you guys don’t see it every day on the training pitch, what we do.
“On a Saturday, if we don’t get a result then it is all ‘Chelsea’s this, Chelsea’s that’ which I understand because obviously football can be like that but I think what we’re building, the fans will see what we’re doing.
“The manager has said to us — and the players are not stupid — we see every day what the fans say and stuff so he’s said to us stick together, you believe in us, the players believe in the manager as well and eventually we’ll see it.”
Cole Palmer has been an outstanding player despite the teams struggles this season, netting 10 goals , 12 assists and recently won Men Young Player of the Year at the 2024 London Football Awards.
