Rachel Minaya, the wife of New York Yankees executive Omar Minaya, was discovered deceased at their New Jersey residence on Saturday, according to the New York Post.

While the cause of death remains unannounced, authorities have ruled out suicide. Omar Minaya was not at home when his wife passed away. The couple met in 1989 and got engaged a year later.

Omar Minaya began his tenure with the Yankees in 2023, serving as a senior adviser to general manager Brian Cashman.

His career in baseball started as a scout for the Texas Rangers, followed by a role in the New York Mets front office in his hometown of Queens. Minaya made history in 2002 as MLB’s first Hispanic general manager with the Montreal Expos. He later returned to the Mets from 2004 to 2010, served as Vice President of Baseball Operations for the San Diego Padres from 2011 to 2015, and briefly held the position of interim GM for the Mets in 2018.

Rachel Minaya is survived by Omar and their two adult sons, Justin and Teddy. Justin Minaya currently plays in the NBA for the Portland Trail Blazers, participating in 34 games during the 2023-24 season with an average of 1.8 points per game.

He previously played for Providence College, contributing to their Sweet 16 appearance in 2022.

Teddy Minaya, born in 1997, is two years older than Justin. At the time of their births, Omar was working for the Rangers and later the Mets.

As of Sunday night, neither the Yankees nor MLB have issued official statements regarding Rachel Minaya’s death.
