Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly taken a significant step toward appointing Vitor Pereira as their new head coach following the dismissal of Gary O’Neil.
O’Neil was relieved of his duties after a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Ipswich Town, which marked Wolves’ fourth consecutive loss and their 11th in 16 league games this season.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Wolves have made considerable progress in negotiations and reached a verbal agreement with Pereira, who currently manages Saudi club Al Shabab.
It is anticipated that the Portuguese coach will soon finalize his move to England to fulfill what has been described as his Premier League “dream.”
The 56-year-old, who previously managed notable clubs like Corinthians, Flamengo, and Fenerbahce, could start overseeing training sessions by Wednesday. Pereira’s appointment comes nearly three years after his unsuccessful bid to manage Everton, who opted for Frank Lampard instead.
If all goes as planned, Pereira is expected to lead Wolves in a crucial match against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium this Sunday. This encounter is critical for Wolves, who are battling for Premier League survival, trailing five points behind Leicester.
