The New York Yankees have finalized a deal to acquire versatile utility player Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins.
Chisholm, known for his combination of speed, power, and defensive flexibility, is expected to strengthen the Yankees’ lineup, joining stars Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.
The Marlins will receive three prospects in return: catcher Agustin Ramirez, infielder Jared Serna, and utility player Abrahan Ramirez.
Chisholm, 26, has had a solid 2024 season, hitting .249 with 31 extra-base hits and 22 stolen bases. His addition gives the Yankees a dynamic leadoff hitter and the ability to shift him between the infield and outfield, enhancing their defensive options. Despite his non-elite defense, his versatility is a valuable asset.
In exchange, the Marlins gain promising young talent. Agustin Ramirez, the Yankees’ 20th-ranked prospect, has shown impressive offensive skills, particularly at the Double-A level. Jared Serna, though limited in power, brings speed and a consistent hitting ability. Abrahan Ramirez, while unranked, has excelled in rookie ball with strong on-base skills.
This trade bolsters the Yankees’ bid to reinvigorate their season, while the Marlins add depth to their farm system. Overall, the Yankees receive high marks for acquiring a key player, while the Marlins secure a respectable return in their rebuilding efforts.
