The New York Yankees selected Vanderbilt pitcher Bryce Cunningham in the second round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft on Sunday night.

Cunningham, a former standout at Headland High School, is a 6-foot-5 right-hander. In his third season with Vanderbilt, he posted a 7-4 record with a 4.36 ERA across 16 starts. Over 84.2 innings, Cunningham struck out 96 batters while allowing 69 hits and 34 walks.

During his college career, Cunningham recorded an 11-8 record with a 4.95 ERA in 46 games, including 26 starts. He amassed 168 strikeouts over 160 innings.

At Headland High School, he was an All-State selection in 2021, boasting a 0.76 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 46 innings. Cunningham was the second Alabama high school or college player picked in the 2024 draft, following Alabama pitcher Ben Hess, also chosen by the Yankees.
