Aston Villa is on the brink of setting a new club-record transfer fee with the imminent acquisition of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.
According to Express and Star journalist Matt Maher, the deal’s final structure could surpass the club’s previous record.
Currently, Villa’s highest transfer fee is the £51.9 million paid for Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, as reported by The Guardian.
David Ornstein initially reported that Aston Villa and Everton were close to agreeing on a figure around £50 million for Onana.
Amadou Onana’s departure from Everton seemed inevitable, given his clear intentions to leave Goodison Park after just two seasons. Although Everton’s management might have hoped for a higher fee, particularly after Onana declined a move to Saudi Arabia, the reported figure still marks a substantial transfer.
The final transfer fee could potentially increase with performance-related add-ons, making the deal even more lucrative for Everton. Onana’s move is expected to be beneficial for Aston Villa, especially after securing Champions League football for the upcoming season.
