English golfer Charley Hull withdrew from the Aramco Team Series London at the Centurion Club early in the first round due to illness.
Hull, ranked World No. 8, played only six holes before seeking medical advice and deciding to exit the tournament on the recommendation of a physiotherapist.
Sky Sports commentator Richard Kaufman reported that Hull had been feeling unwell on Wednesday, which led to her withdrawal.
She was participating in the event alongside teammates Annabel Dimmock and Christine Wolf. Hull, the team captain, had chosen Dimmock as her final pick before the tournament, while Wolf, an Austrian golfer, was randomly assigned to the group along with an amateur player.
The Aramco Team Series London is part of the Ladies European Tour (LET), featuring 36 teams of three professionals and one amateur each. The tournament runs from July 3 to July 5, with team competitions on the first two days and a final day shoot-out for the professionals.
Hull’s withdrawal comes shortly after World No. 1 Nelly Korda pulled out of the event. Korda was bitten by a dog in Seattle last month and had to stay in the US for treatment and recovery. Fellow golfer Alison Lee, who experienced a similar incident earlier this year, shared details about Korda’s situation, noting that Korda was attacked outside a coffee shop by an unknown dog, an ordeal Lee empathized with due to her own experience with a severe dog bite.
The Aramco Team Series London is the third of five global events in the series, with upcoming tournaments scheduled in Asia in October and the finale in Riyadh in November.
Hull’s absence is a significant loss for the event, but the competition continues with many top players vying for victory.
