Former Indiana center Kel’el Ware is quickly making a name for himself with the Miami Heat during the NBA Summer League.
The Heat were thrilled to select Ware with the 15th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, and their excitement has only grown since. Ware, who transferred to Indiana after a season at Oregon, has impressed in his early professional outings.

In his third Summer League game, Ware showcased his potential by scoring 17 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting, helping the Heat secure a 119-114 victory over the Boston Celtics. Heat Summer League coach Don Bisaccio praised Ware’s ability to handle the complex demands of the game, including new offensive and defensive schemes.
“Kel’el has embraced our coaching and brings a hardworking mentality every day,” Bisaccio noted.
Ware’s performance has been consistently strong, including a standout game against Sacramento where he recorded 26 points and 11 rebounds. Despite some physical challenges, such as needing to build strength to handle the rigors of the NBA, Ware’s adaptability and willingness to learn have stood out.
Ware credits Indiana coach Mike Woodson for his smooth transition to the NBA. Woodson’s extensive NBA experience has been invaluable, helping Ware develop skills that are crucial at the professional level. Ware expressed gratitude for the preparation he received at Indiana, which has eased his adjustment to the NBA’s demands.
