Leeds United has set a £12.6 million asking price for defender Maximilian Wober, who spent the season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, as reported by Bild.

The German club is keen to retain the Austria international for the next season, but Leeds is holding firm on their valuation due to their own need for center-backs.

Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion back to the Premier League, losing 1-0 in the playoff final to Southampton. Throughout the season, Leeds had strong periods but faltered towards the end, missing the crucial push for promotion.

A key player for Leeds was Joe Rodon, who was on loan from Tottenham. Rodon formed a solid defensive partnership with various teammates, but with the transfer window open, Leeds aims to secure him permanently. However, other clubs are also interested in Rodon, making it challenging for Leeds to retain him.

Given this uncertainty, Leeds is motivated to keep Wober, who could fill the gap if Rodon leaves. Although the club needs to sell players to comply with financial regulations, Wober’s retention is seen as vital for their promotion hopes.

Leeds also has other potential sales, such as Crysencio Summerville, who has been linked with a £30 million move away from Elland Road. Despite financial pressures, Leeds believes keeping Wober will strengthen their chances for a successful promotion campaign next season.
