As the 2024 NFL season approaches, training camps have begun with 222 players from Alabama high schools and colleges on various team rosters.

These players, rooted in Alabama’s strong football tradition, are spread across numerous teams, reflecting the state’s significant contribution to the sport.

The Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, and Pittsburgh Steelers were the last teams to start their training camps on Thursday, a week before the Hall of Fame Game.

The first preseason game will see the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans face off on August 1 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

The Cleveland Browns lead the pack with 13 players from Alabama institutions, followed closely by the Philadelphia Eagles with 12, and the Texans with 11. Both the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars have 10 players each from Alabama schools. This shows the widespread impact of Alabama-trained players in the NFL.

Among these 222 players, 88 are alumni of the University of Alabama, while Auburn University contributes 43. Other colleges such as South Alabama, UAB, Troy, Samford, Alabama State, and Jacksonville State also have representatives in the NFL, highlighting the broad talent pool across the state. High schools are equally well-represented, with Hoover High School boasting five alumni currently in the league, followed by several other high schools with notable contributions.

Defensive backs make up the largest group with 55 players, illustrating the state’s ability to produce top-tier defensive talent. The remaining players are distributed across various positions: 37 defensive linemen, 34 wide receivers, 27 linebackers, 27 offensive linemen, 14 running backs, 11 quarterbacks, eight tight ends, four kickers, two punters, one fullback, and one long snapper.

The presence of Alabama players spans all 32 NFL teams, demonstrating the state’s significant influence on the league. Teams like the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, and Baltimore Ravens feature prominent names such as DeMarcco Hellams from Alabama, and Derrick Henry, a well-known running back from Alabama, respectively.

The list continues with notable players like Bryce Young, the former Alabama quarterback now with the Carolina Panthers, and Jalen Hurts, also an Alabama alumnus, leading the Philadelphia Eagles.
