West Ham United is preparing to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon this summer, as reported by AS.
The Hammers’ manager, Julen Lopetegui, who previously won the Europa League with Reguilon at Sevilla, is keen to reunite with the player.
Reguilon, 27, spent the first half of last season on loan at Manchester United but finished the season at Brentford after his loan spell was terminated by the Red Devils. Despite an unimpressive stint at Manchester United, Reguilon found success at Brentford, recording four assists in 16 appearances.
Reguilon is set to leave Tottenham after three loan spells since 2022, and with just 12 months left on his contract, he is available for a fraction of the £30 million Tottenham paid for him in 2020. The Spanish defender’s three years of Premier League experience, along with a loan spell at Atletico Madrid in the 2022/23 season, make him a valuable target for West Ham.
West Ham has already signed 18-year-old Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras and is looking to strengthen their defense further.
Lopetegui has identified the backline as a critical area for improvement. The Hammers have also shown interest in Wolves’ center-back Max Kilman and Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
With these defensive reinforcements, Lopetegui could potentially field an entirely new backline next season at the London Stadium. The club’s aggressive pursuit of new defenders underscores their commitment to bolstering their squad for the upcoming season.
In other news, journalist Jacob Steinberg has provided an update on West Ham’s bid for Max Kilman following their offer for Todibo.
The club’s active transfer window activities suggest more signings could be on the horizon as they aim to build a competitive squad.
